Jacob Zuma’s audacious move to ignore the ruling party’s demand for his immediate resignation turned out to be a move he will never forget, as he has been recalled by the African National Congress today.
The African National Congress resolved to recall him by invoking the clause in the party’s constitution that gives the body the powers to recall any public representative.
The recall was birthed by Zuma’s alleged involvement in a corruption scandal, that has been a hot topic in the South African political sphere for quite a while.
Though the recall notice is unconstitutional, any attempt by Jacob Zuma to remain in power will no longer have the support of the party that was once led by Nelson Mandela. He must now decide either to succumb to the party’s demand or hold on to the presidential seat.
