President Muhammadu Buhari has said the winning the Ekiti is important to APC.

The president who has started preparations to compete for a second term in the 2019 presidential election, admitted that a victory for All Progressives Congress in the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti – is key to return the state to its pride of place.

“I know Ekiti fairly well and Ekiti people are well known for their forthrightness, candour and integrity,” said Buhari while hosting members of the APC South West group – which included the party’s candidate Kayode Fayemi – to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari EkitiVice President Yemi Osinbajo, national leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, were present at the dinner.  Some members of the National Assembly, ministers, and stakeholders also attended the dinner along with Governors including Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) and  Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, who was the chairman of APC Ekiti Guber primaries committee. Buhari added: “All of these values seem to have been lost and we must restore these values and return Ekiti to its pride of place in the comity of states. As we approach the 2019 elections, the return of Ekiti into the fold of progressive states is important as the election of July 14 is going to be a key pointer to subsequent elections.”

Fayemi, who was governor in the state between October 16, 2010, and 2014 will face incumbent Deputy Governor Kolapo Olusola of PDP, and ADP’s candidate Segun Adewale in the election on July 14.
