The blues seemed to have recovered from their defensive problems when they breezed past Bournemouth in their league match on Saturday, but their weakness was brought to light again in a masterclass performance by Perotti, El Shaarawy and Dzeko.
The lethal trident of Roma’s attack was too much for the blues to handle as they pierced their way through Chelsea’s defense in a night the blues could have qualified for the knockout stage.
Chelsea will hope to put this result behind them as they prepare for their home clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
