Super Eagles Can’t Stop Lionel Messi At World Cup – Diego Simeone Boasts

Diego Simeone is confident Lionel Messi will be difficult to stop at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Fresh off winning the Europa League Cup, Diego Simeone and his Atletico Madrid side arrived Nigeria for a friendly match with the Super Eagles Team B at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday (May 22). Goals from Angel Correa, Fernando Torres and Borja Garces denied the Eagles B side a victory in the “difficult” match, with Kelechi Nwakali and Usman Mohammed scoring for the home side. ”We are happy to be here today. It was a difficult match though we won. The Super Eagles played very well, they tried,” Simeone said.

Simeone further boasted that Lionel Messi will be difficult to stop at next month’s World Cup during a press conference at the Godswill Akpabio stadium. He said, “Lionel Messi is a special player. He’s difficult to stop if he’s in good shape and he wants to win the World Cup before retiring so I don’t see any of the teams stopping him. But good luck to all the teams going to the World Cup.” Nigeria will face the Argentines on June 26 at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg after meeting Croatia and Iceland.
