#FreedomOfThePress: Presidency Bars Media Agencies From Covering Buhari’s Visit To Benue State

While dust is yet to settle on the hate speech trend, the Nigerian government has once again, hurled another stone at the 21st century “Freedom Of The Press” mantra, as at least 20 media agencies were barred from covering President Buhari’s visit to Benue state on Monday.
Of the 30 correspondents from various media organisations that traveled to the state to cover the event, only seven media organisations were allowed to cover the President’s visit. The barred organizations include popular media brands like: The PUNCH, ThisDay, Vanguard, Tribune, New Telegraph and The Nation.
The seven media organizations allowed to cover the event include: The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Daily Sun, Voice of Nigeria, Daily Trust, Leadership, The Guardian and Daily Independent. As at the time of this report, no reason has been given for the segregation.
