Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone has insisted that his team will be giving no thought to the fact that their Europa League semi-final clash on Thursday could be Arsene Wenger’s final European match in charge of Arsenal.
The Spaniards held the Gunners to a 1-1 at the Emirate stadium, thus earning themselves an away goal, into the second leg at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Simeone, insisted that there would be no room for sentiments in the highly anticipated thriller as his men prepare to host the Gunners. He said: “We are not thinking about Wenger’s last season at Arsenal, only about what we need. We need to see a full stadium, the excitement of our players, the energy in the team, that’s what matters to us.”
Diego Simeone was sent to the stands in last week’s opening game in London thus earning him a touchline ban in the second leg. He said: “I’ll take it badly,” Simeone said. “I’m sad about this situation and I’ll have to improve. I better shut up.”
