MCM: Man Like Ugo Paul Monye! A Fashion Designer Changing The Face Of Menswear

Currently trending all over social media, meet Ugo Monye an artist who’s parent wanted to study fine and applied art, but he insisted on becoming a businessman like his father. So he studied business administration. While Ugo was in school, he found himself criticising the things people wore and started drawing how he felt it should be. Ugo naturally just flowed into the art of designing clothes because it came easily to him. He had sewing machines from his mums former business that he started using, hired a tailor in his house, took orders from school and delivered.After attending a local fashion school, Ugo knew that the next thing was to define my target market.
Due to his background working in a consulting strategy company, it was quite easy for him to point out and he was able to define his target market by defining the quality of clothes he produced. Ugo decided he wanted to make high-quality clothing so that naturally defined the kind of people that would pay for my service. So he started making clothes for a niche market.His eponymous which is now one of Nigeria’s top fashion brands, known for its trendsetting styles and attires designed exclusively for fashion-forward individuals, started as a unisex brand with more emphasis on female clients because designing for women allowed him to be more creative. Over time, he realized how tough it was dealing with women although they paid well. On the other hand, the menswear line picked up and he became more creative and innovative with men’s style. The men were less demanding, so it was easy to lay more focus on the male line as he was seeing more results in a shorter amount of time.Credit: TheGuardian
