Timi Dakolo covers the Latest Edition Of Guardian Life. Dakolo emerged winner of the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007 and this makes it ten years since he came fully to the limelight. The 36-year-old vocalist was part of the four-man panelist in the just concluded The Voice Nigeria where he took on the challenge to mentor Idyl – the 2017 winner of the singing competition, Dakolo shares the secret to winning singing talent hunts: “It is the simple but not so simple experience of connecting with your audience, being the song (and) not just singing the song, and also, being likable. You don’t show any form of arrogance.” Ten years after winning Idols, Dakolo talks to Guardian life about his experience so far.
