Puzzling! Can YOU See What’s Wrong With This Leonardo Da Vinci £75m ‘Jesus Christ’ Painting

Leonardo Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi was painted in the late 15th century – but modern day critics are irked by one specific feature of the masterpiece. The artwork has only recently been attributed to the infamous artist, after it was rediscovered, restored and exhibited in 2011. The portrait depicts Jesus Christ dressed in Renaissance clothing.Da Vinci’s figure clutches a crystal orb and has the fingers on his right hand crossed. The piece, which has been valued at around £75 million, is set to be sold on November 15. Christie’s New York are the lucky dealers to be flogging the historic painting, which they describe as “one of fewer than 20 known paintings by Leonardo, and the only one in private hands”.Even though the sale has sparked excitement in the art world, some critics have noticed that the talented painter made a mistake when putting together the portrait. And apparently, it’s all to do with perspective. If you take a look at the sphere in the figure’s hand, you’ll notice it is completely see-through. This is unlike the effect of an actual crystal, which would cause the background to be distorted and magnified.Photo Credit: Getty
