Karl Lagerfeld Is Awarded With Highest Honour In Paris

83-year-old fashion powerhouse and creative director of Chanel Karl Lagerfeld was presented with the highest honour in Paris, the Médaille Grand Vermeil de la Ville, by Paris’ mayor Anne Hidalgo, after the presentation of his Fall 2017 Couture line on Tuesday. The medal recognises Lagerfeld’s dedication and service to the city of Paris.In a short speech, Hidalgo described Lagerfeld as “a big talent; a unique person; someone who makes Paris more magical; someone who makes Paris a city in which things happen. Paris loves you, Karl. You are Paris.” On accepting the award Lagerfeld, who is German but was also speaking French, said he hoped use of the language would become more fashionable, adding: “Let’s celebrate France and Paris. Vive la France!”Famous faces such as Cara Delevingne, Julianne Moore, Katy Perry and Tilda Swinton sat front row to show their love for Lagerfeld and his designs.
