Chelsea 2 – 3 Burnley: Clarets Stun Premier League Champions With Shock Away Win

Champions Chelsea’s Premier League title defence got off to an unexpectedly nightmarish start as they were beaten at home by Burnley. Antonio Conte’s team were 3-0 down at half-time before eventually succumbing 3-2.They had their new captain, Gary Cahill, sent off in the 14th minute for a high tackle on Steven Defour and were reduced to nine men late in the second half when Cesc Fabregas was also dismissed.Sam Vokes gave Burnley the lead via a David Luiz deflection after a superb lofted pass from Matthew Lowton, Stephen Ward doubled Burnley’s advantage before Vokes grabbed his second in a stunning first 45 minutes.Alvaro Morata scored his first Premier League goal after emerging from the Chelsea bench in the second half and Brazilian star David Luiz scored the second goal to set up a very nervy finish at Stamford Bridge.Photo Credit: Getty
